Mark Eisner

Mark Eisner conceived, edited, and was one of the principal translators for The Essential Neruda: Selected Poems (City Lights, 2004). For Neruda's centennial that year, Mark was interviewed on NPR's Morning Edition. He has also just written Neruda: The Poet's Calling, which the bestselling novelist Cristina García has called a "definitive" biography on the poet, one that "reads like a beautifully written novel" (Ecco, March 2018). Eisner is also currently completing a documentary on Neruda, with support from Latino Public Broadcasting. Outside of Pablo, Eisner was involved with the founding of the Red Poppy Art House in San Francisco, and helps lead Red Poppy, a literary non-profit focused on Latin American poetry. Their latest project was creating a multilingual anthology of Latin American resistance poetry.
