Mexico City, Mexico
Somehow I've spent much of the past two decades working on projects related to Pablo Neruda, beginning by developing, editing, and contributing translations to City Lights’ 2004 The Essential Neruda: Selected Poems. The latest, Neruda: The Biography of a Poet (Ecco), was a Finalist for the 2019 PEN/ Bograd Weld Prize for Biography. I'm still working on a documentary film on him. An earlier version was narrated by Isabel Allende. Now, though, I'm moving away from Pablo. I co-edited Resistencia: Poems of Protest and Revolution, just published by Tin House, featuring an introduction by Julia Alvarez. I am currently living in Mexico City, working on a book that explores the interweaving forces of Tina Modotti’s art and life when she lived here during the 1920s.

I was involved in the early stages of the Red Poppy Art House in San Francisco, lived in a cabin in northern Michigan as well as southern Chile...www.markeisner.net
